Ghar-Ghar Ayushman’ Kicks Off in Jharkhand to Increase AB PM-JAY Awareness and Card Generation

Pilot project to enhance PM-JAY awareness and increase beneficiary card generation kicks off in UP

GIZ has agreed to provide focused support to the Uttar Pradesh State Health Agency (SACHIS) to improve IEC, beneficiary awareness generation and outreach activities thus resulting in increased beneficiary card generation. The main objective of the pilot project is to ensure that the beneficiaries are aware of their entitlement, benefit cover, empanelled hospitals and process to avail the services under AB PM-JAY. The pilot will focus on five aspirational blocks identified and recommended by SACHIS.

IGUHC partners with ASCI to conduct Programme on Monitoring and Evaluation and Evidence Based Decision Making

Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) is running in its fifth year of implementation and it is recognised that the importance of Monitoring and Evaluation and use of data for decision making is now paramount. Keeping this in mind, GIZ’s IGUHC is partnering with the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) to conduct a three-day programme designed to provide insights into theoretical and practical dimensions of conducting monitoring and evaluations.

Leadership for Universal Health Coverage (L4UHC) is implemented by P4H partners namely France, Germany, the International Labor Organization (ILO), Switzerland, the United States, the World Bank, and the World Health Organization (WHO), in cooperation with other partners within the P4H network. As GIZ is one of P4H partners globally, GIZ India’s IGUHC is leading coordination effort in organizing the program cycle in India.

IGUHC organises series of capacity building workshops in Kerala

Capacity building workshops on ‘Quality under PM-JAY’ in Kerala were organised by GIZ and the National Health Authority, in 3 districts of Kerala- Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum), Kozhikode and Kochi from Oct 31 – Nov 4, 2022. The objective of these workshops was to interact and strengthen the district implementation units of the state and other stakeholders of the state health department on the quality aspects of the PM-JAY scheme.

NHA organises Arogya Manthan

To mark the double anniversaries of AB PM-JAY and ABDM, NHA organized a two-day physical event, Arogya Manthan 2022 from 25th to 26th September 2022 at The Ashok, New Delhi. This time, the celebrations were doubled with AB PM-JAY completing 4 years since its implementation on 23rd September 2018 and ABDM completing its first anniversary since its launch on 27th September 2021.

IGUHC supports Indian govt. to secure future of millions of people by free treatment

On behalf of BMZ, GIZ has been supporting the Indian Government with this project from the outset. For more than 10 years, it has been advising on planning and implementation and is helping to set up decentralised structures and train the required specialists. The Indian Government introduced the world’s largest state-funded health insurance scheme in 2018, and it has become a shining example for other countries. It enables poor families who have not made any contributions to access hospital treatment. From April 2020 to January 2022 alone, 18 million treatments in approximately 28,000 contract hospitals were carried out under the insurance scheme.

PM-JAY North East Regional workshop held in Shillong

May 23-24, 2022, Shillong: GIZ-IGUHC supported the North Eastern Regional Review Meeting of PM-JAY held in Shillong. The meeting brought together sister states in NE region for not only taking notes from achievements, discuss leanings from the past but also to draw future roadmap for Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) as well as ABDM. It served as a key platform from NE states to brainstorm on critical aspects and deliberate on new initiatives with key stakeholders of PM-JAY and ABDM.

GIZ organises workshop on Strengthening SBCC capacities of State Health Agencies

May 9-11, 2022, Ranchi: GIZ’s Indo-German Programme on Universal Health Coverage organised a two-and-a-half-day workshop on ‘Strengthening Capacities of State Health Agencies’ from May 9 to 11, 2022. The workshop organised with support from the National Health Authority (NHA) saw participation from eight states – Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.

GIZ India and IIM Indore organise a two-day conference on issues, challenges, and advancements in managing the global pandemic

April 16-17, 2022: IIM Indore, in association with GIZ, organized a two-day online conference on ‘COVID 19: Learnings & Implications for Management’ on April 16-17, 2022. The conference offered a diverse forum for academicians, practitioners, industrialists, and students to discuss the issues, challenges, and advancements in managing the global pandemic. The conference was inaugurated online by Prof. Himanshu Rai, Director, IIM Indore, and Mr. Amit Paliwal, Program Director, GIZ India, on April 16, 2022.

GIZ India participates in the National Summit of Health and Population Scientists in Nepal

Nepal Health Research Council (NHRC) celebrated the 31st glorious year of its establishment on 11 April, 2022. As a part of its continuous efforts to advance scientific merits in health and population research and their use in Nepal, NHRC organized the Eighth National Summit of Health and Population Scientists in Nepal. The eighth Summit was held on 10-12 April 2022 in Kathmandu, Nepal, with the theme “Advancing Health Policy and Systems Research: Lessons for Resilient Health System in Nepal”.

PM-JAY Southern Regional Review Meeting held in Mahabalipuram

April 6-7, 2022: Ayushman Sangam for the year 2022 commenced with the South Zone states/UTs – Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and Telangana. The Southern Regional Review Meeting was conducted in Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu from 6th to 7th April 2022. This exercise reviewed how AB PM-JAY provides an effective platform for key stakeholders to brainstorm on critical aspects of AB PM-JAY, reflect on past learnings and present best practices.

IGUHC during the times to COVID-19: Rising to the occasion

For the past year the Indo-German Program on Universal Health Coverage (IGUHC) has been advising and consulting the Government of India on its road towards Universal Health Coverage. In our work with the Ministry Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW), the National Health Authority (NHA) and with selected State Governments we constantly have one main goal: to strengthen India’s health system and improve financial and social health security to Indian citizens. A goal, which during the Covid-19 pandemic and its grip on societies worldwide is gaining even more relevance. Our Programme’s activities to support AB PM-JAY (India’s national health insurance scheme for the poor), and the capacity strengthening in specific States, such as Assam, is now more important than ever.
