NEWS 2: IGUHC Organises Workshops on ‘Sensitization of Empanelled Hospitals on Quality Certifications Under AB PM-JAY’ and ‘DIU Strengthening’ in Jharkhand on 15th, 16th and 18th May 2023

We are proud to announce that GIZ India’s Indo-German Programme on Universal Health Coverage (IGUHC) collaborated with the State Health Agency Jharkhand to organize a series of workshops from the 15th to the 18th of May 2023 in Jharkhand. These workshops, titled ‘Sensitization of Empanelled Hospitals on Quality Certifications Under AB PM-JAY,’ and ‘DIU Strengthening’ aimed to raise awareness and encourage empanelled hospitals to adopt quality systems and obtain the necessary certifications under the AB PM-JAY scheme as well as strengthen the DIUs for better scheme implementation.
To ensure the success of these workshops and the effective implementation of AB PM-JAY in Jharkhand, technical sessions were conducted by IGUHC in collaboration with the National Health Authority (NHA) and the State Health Agency (SHA) Jharkhand. This collaboration emphasized the importance of sensitizing empanelled hospitals to quality standards and PM-JAY certifications, as well as strengthening the District Implementation Units (DIUs) by devising comprehensive strategies.
To maximize the reach of the workshops, a dedicated session on ‘Quality Certification’ was held in Ranchi on May 15th, 2023. The event was graced by esteemed guests including Shri Bhuvnesh Pratap Singh, Executive Director of the State Health Agency Jharkhand, and Dr. Pankaj Kumar Arora, Director HPQA and SPE Division, NHA. The technical sessions covered various aspects such as the role of quality in Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and PM-JAY, hospital assessments using the bronze checklist, quality interventions under PM-JAY, and sharing of learnings and best practices from Kerala and Jammu & Kashmir. This format was replicated during the workshop held on May 18th in Deoghar, Jharkhand.
The workshop on ‘DIU Strengthening,’ took place on May 16th, 2023, in Ranchi. This session focused on important areas of discussion such as Social and Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) to enhance scheme awareness, defining the roles and responsibilities of the DIUs, Chief Medical Officer (CMO), and State Health Agency (SHA), addressing key challenges in implementing the scheme, and engaging in activity-based sessions.
Over 400 public and private Empanelled Health Care Providers (EHCPs) and DIUs actively participated in these workshops. In line with our commitment to the success of the PM-JAY scheme, IGUHC plans to conduct these workshops regularly to provide continuous support and encouragement to the DIUs, ensuring that they are well-equipped to achieve the objectives of the PM-JAY scheme.
