NEWS: GIZ supports Jashn-e-Sehat & DIU Strengthening Workshop in Jammu & Kashmir
GIZ India’s Indo-German Program on Universal Health Coverage (IGUHC) supported the State Health Agency (SHA) of Jammu & Kashmir in organizing ‘Jashn-e-Sehat,’ on November 4-5, 2022, a celebration of hope and success of implementation of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) and AB PM-JAY SEHAT in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.
This was followed by a two-day workshop in association with the National Health Authority (NHA). On the first day, the workshop aimed at engaging with the EHCPs and sensitizing them about topics such as Hospital Quality, PM-JAY IT Platforms and E-RUPI.

As DIUs are the key operative units for the implementation of the scheme, to improve the functioning of the scheme, it is essential that these Units are strengthened. However, to arrive at a comprehensive DIU strengthening strategy, it is important to engage with the DIUs to identify the key constraints, which if addressed effectively will allow for improved efficiency and effectiveness of these DIUs, and lead to an overall improvement in the performance of AB PM-JAY and PM-JAY SEHAT. Keeping this in mind, the second day of the workshop aimed at strengthening the capacities of the DIUs. Some of the topics discussed were Claim Adjudication & Grievance, Roles and Responsibilties of DIU, SHA and CMO, Fraud Detection, Social and Behavioural Change Communication for Increased Awareness, etc.
It is important to note that the UT of J&K is amongst the first states to extend the PM-JAY cover to its entire population, the SHA faces some very unique challenges, and the objective of the workshop was to provide a platform to the DIUs and the SHA to interact and identify these challenges and discuss possible solutions. This was the first such workshop in the state.
The participating districts from UT of Jammu were Samba, Kulgam, Shopian, Ganderbal, Anantnag, Poonch and Pulwama with over 100 attendees during the two-day workshop. The workshop successfully harnessed the enthusiasm and involvement of the participants, and it was pragmatic that training workshops must happen at regular intervals.
