Mr. Amit Paliwal
Programme Director, IGUHC GIZ
Dear Visitors,
Welcome to the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) India’s Indo German Programme on Universal Health Coverage (IGUHC), where our mission is grounded in the conviction that affordable, accessible, and high-quality healthcare is an inherent right. In a country where a significant proportion of health expenditures are shouldered directly by individuals, the resulting economic hardships for millions underscore the critical need for change. The COVID-19 pandemic has accentuated the imperative for robust and inclusive healthcare systems.
In order to improve health care for the population, the Government of India more than ten years ago began to set up what is today the world’s largest public health insurance scheme, Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY), extending health coverage to more than 500 million families. On behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH has been supporting the Government of India in this scheme from the very beginning. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) has also been providing financial support since 2017. IGUHC is dedicated to fostering partnerships, implementing cutting-edge strategies, and enhancing capacities to act as a catalyst for positive transformation in India’s healthcare landscape, in collaboration with the National Health Authority (NHA), the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).
We extend a heartfelt invitation for you to join us on this impactful journey toward a healthier and more equitable India. Together, let’s contribute to reshaping the healthcare narrative and ensuring that quality healthcare is not just an aspiration but a tangible reality.
Warm regards,
Amit Paliwal,
